The Younger Stroke Patients
Unhealthy lifestyles and increased stress levels are now thought to cause stroke is more common in young people. In fact, stroke is generally more common in people over the age of 50 years.
The number of stroke patients aged 20-54 years in the United States is known to increase 13 percent compared with the number of stroke patients in 1993 and 1994. In Indonesia, there are no exact figures, but there is also a trend of stroke at a young age.
"The results of this study point out though young people always feel themselves healthy, but can also be experienced stroke," said Dr. Brett Kissela, from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
According to the American Stroke Association, stroke is the leading cause of disability and the leading cause of death included.
Stroke occurs when blood flow to the brain is blocked, the nerve cells do not get oxygen and nutrients. Consequently, the function of brain cells will be damaged permanently. Brain tissue will die.
Risk factors for stroke has many similarities with risk factors for heart attacks, among other things, high blood pressure, smoking, high cholesterol, diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, too much sitting, as well as genetic factors.
According to Dr. Ralph Sacco, one of the researchers, lack of physical activity is thought to be the cause of an increase in the trend of stroke at a young age.
"There are three things that are focused by the association of stroke clinicians to be aware of heart disease, namely obesity, diabetes, and exercise. During the past decade, there has been an increase in blood pressure and cholesterol, but for physical activity did not change much," he said.
